Going for a morning walk in the park or strolling along the road feels refreshing. It’s heartening to see so many people prioritizing their health. People have become more conscious about their fitness, and the introduction of open gyms has further encouraged them. Many individuals can be seen exercising there, making the most of the available facilities.
However, as a physiotherapist, I can’t help but observe certain things.
But wait… What’s happening here?
Many people start exercising rigorously without considering their physical condition. Some overweight individuals, without thinking about their knees or heart, start running. Others engage in extreme jumping exercises, while some challenge themselves with steep climbs.
Excessive exercise—regardless of the type—can be harmful.
Every day in my clinic, I see young patients whose bodies are already deteriorating.
Their primary goal? Losing weight and staying fit.
To achieve this, they push themselves to the extreme.
For example:
- Climbing Parvati Hill five times a day
- Cycling 20 kilometers daily
But in all of this, they fail to consider their age and body type.
As a result, they soon suffer from knee pain, back pain, and other joint-related issues. When advised to take it easy, they argue, “If that person can do it, why can’t I?”
However, it is crucial to understand that every body is different.
Each individual has a unique physical constitution, and not all exercises suit everyone. That’s why excessive workouts should be avoided. Once the body starts deteriorating, the damage is often irreversible.
Your health is your greatest asset. It can only be preserved through balanced exercise and proper nutrition.
